Steeles is the border, and the border is where cars get hit
Nearly every Thornhill household crosses Steeles at least once a day — down Bathurst, down Yonge, down Bayview — and those crossings are where a large share of the neighbourhood’s bodywork is born. Yonge & Steeles stacks left-turn lanes, bus platforms, and subway-extension construction into one intersection, and the lane shifts around the hoarding catch drivers who knew the old road better than the new one. West of Yonge, the pattern changes shape. Old village, new towers, and what each does to a car
Thornhill Village — the heritage stretch of old Yonge north of Centre — is lovely and unforgiving. Yes — Thornhill is one neighbourhood to us regardless of which city hall it answers to. From Royal Orchard or the Bayview side, come down Yonge or Bayview to Steeles and across to Bathurst or the 401. The drive is only a few minutes longer than from the Vaughan side.
