A town in a valley collects its own kind of damage

Almost every road out of Dundas climbs the escarpment, and that fact writes half of the repair orders we see from the valley. Sydenham Road is the steep one — in January a light car with worn tires can lose the hill halfway up and come back down against a curb or a guardrail. York Road and the King Street West end toward Peters Corners add their own winter slides, and Spencer Creek keeps the low streets damp enough that black ice lingers after the rest of Hamilton has dried. The gentler damage comes from the town itself. Downtown Dundas parks on the street — angled and parallel spots along King Street West, tight lanes behind the shops — and the century neighbourhoods off Ogilvie and Governors Road have driveways drawn for 1920s cars, not modern SUVs. Add the Dundas Peak crowds every October, when trailhead overflow fills Greensville and the north-end streets with visitors turning around in strange driveways, and you get a steady diet of creased doors, folded mirrors, and bumper corners. Festival weekends — Buskerfest in June, the Cactus Festival in August — pack the core the same way.

The route is Cootes Drive to Main Street West, the 403 Toronto-bound, then across to Keele Street just south of Sheppard — about 52 to 70 minutes outside rush hour. Rental pickup through your coverage is booked to your arrival so the key swap happens once, and the finished car is inspected and road-tested before you point it back at the escarpment.
