A neighbourhood with nowhere to hide from the sky
Hail is an occasional visitor to Toronto, but when a thunderstorm cell carrying it tracks over York, the neighbourhood has almost no defence. The housing stock predates the attached garage; the detached ones off the laneways filled with bicycles and storage decades ago; and permit parking lines every curb from Oakwood Village to Mount Dennis. The open green of Eglinton Flats and the parking around the plazas offer no cover either. A few loud minutes, and every car on the block wears the same pattern of soft dimples.
The pattern is easy to miss at first. GTA hail usually falls small, and the dents it leaves are shallow — invisible in flat noon light, obvious the first morning the sun rakes low across the hood from the east end of the street. Shallow does not mean harmless: every dimple is a stretched spot in the metal, and a roof and hood carrying fifty of them lose real resale value. The damage does not worsen on its own, but it does not leave, either.
The claim: comprehensive, no fault, and won by documentation
Hail belongs to the comprehensive section of your policy — your normal deductible applies, and no fault is assigned to anyone, because there is no one to assign it to. That makes it one of the cleaner claims in the system, and the outcome turns almost entirely on how well the damage is documented. We put the car under angled inspection light and work panel by panel, counting and mapping every strike, because an insurance company pays for what is recorded, and a quick walk-around always undercounts hail.
Timing matters more with hail than with any other damage, because a storm fills every shop in the city on the same afternoon. Send photos the day it happens — even rough phone shots in the driveway — and we open the file and sequence your booking before the queue forms. The owner speaks with the adjuster directly and adds anything the first assessment missed once the car is under our lights. Your job is essentially done after the text message.
- Comprehensive claim — normal deductible, no fault assigned
- Every panel mapped under angled light before the number is set
- Same-day photo intake after a storm holds your spot
- Adjuster conversations handled by the shop, not by you
How a hailed car actually gets fixed
There is no single fix for hail; there is a decision per panel. Shallow dimples in reachable, unstretched metal are worked back to shape. Strikes that landed on creases and edges, or a panel peppered too densely to save, come out through conventional repair or replacement followed by refinishing in the booth. Aluminum hoods respond differently than steel and are judged on their own behaviour. Most hailed cars leave here with a mixture — several panels corrected, one or two refinished, occasionally one replaced — and we walk you through the map so the plan makes sense before work starts.
Wherever paint is involved, the colour is matched to your code, tuned against your car’s sun-and-salt finish, and blended so repaired panels vanish into the whole — all under the lifetime paint warranty. The trip from York is the easy part: straight up Keele, 8 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday, Sundays by appointment, and a rental through your coverage timed to the drop-off when the repair runs long.
