Hail Damage Repair in Caledon

Caledon cars live outdoors — long laneways, open farm lots, no condo garages — so when a summer cell drops hail between the escarpment and Bolton, the dents land on hoods and roofs by the dozen. Collision Auto Center maps the damage panel by panel under proper lighting, runs the comprehensive claim with your insurance company, and repairs or refinishes each panel on its merits under our lifetime paint warranty.

Open-sky parking is the whole story

Hail is a lottery everywhere in southern Ontario, but Caledon buys more tickets. Summer cells build over the escarpment and track east across the town’s open middle — Caledon Village, Inglewood, Caledon East — and when one drops stones, there is nothing between the sky and the sheet metal. Rural properties park trucks and second cars in the open because the garage holds equipment; new south-Caledon subdivisions park second vehicles on the driveway; Albion Hills fills with campers’ cars all summer. Five minutes of hail across any of that writes a very long list of dented hoods, roofs, and deck lids.

The damage is deceptively uniform. Dozens of shallow, round dents, usually with the paint intact, spread across every upward-facing panel — and occasionally a few sharper hits that cracked the finish, which change the repair for that panel entirely. The right response is an inventory, not a glance: each panel assessed under lighting that shows every dent, counted and photographed, so the claim reflects the true scope before any repair path is chosen.

How hail gets repaired honestly

There is no single fix for a hailed car — there is a decision per panel. Shallow dents in sound paint on an accessible panel can often be worked back from behind until the surface reads clean under a reflection board. Dents that stretched the metal, sit on a crowned edge, or cracked the paint need conventional repair and refinishing, colour-matched and blended so the repaired roof does not two-tone against the original quarters. A severely peppered roof skin is sometimes more honestly replaced than massaged. We map the car, price each path, and show you the reasoning rather than a single mystery number.

The claim side is simpler than most people fear. Hail is weather, so it falls under your comprehensive coverage, subject to your deductible — there is no at-fault driver and no fault percentage to argue about. Notify your insurance company promptly, send us photos and the claim number, and the owner handles the adjuster, the documentation, and any supplement if teardown of trim reveals hits the first inspection missed. Paint work carries our lifetime warranty; a rental through your coverage gets timed to your drop-off from Bolton or Caledon East.

About the trucks that follow the storm

Every serious GTA hail event produces a second wave: out-of-town crews knocking on doors and setting up tent operations, offering to “waive the deductible” and fix the car in a parking lot. Be careful. Ontario law puts the choice of repair shop with you — which also means nobody standing on your porch gets to make it — and work done by a crew that leaves the province in three weeks comes with a warranty you cannot find in month two. A hailed car is not an emergency; the dents will wait while you get a written estimate from a shop with a fixed address.

Ours is off Keele just south of Sheppard in North York — about 35 to 48 minutes from Bolton by the 427 and 407, a little more from Caledon Village via the 410. Start with photos in good light to (647) 594-3401: angle the camera low across the hood and roof so the dents shadow up. We will tell you the honest scope, open the claim, and book the car in once, with parts and booth time ready. Hours Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 7 PM, Sundays by appointment.

Common questions

Straight answers before you commit to anything — and a human on the phone when you want one.

Will a hail claim put my Caledon premiums up?

Hail falls under comprehensive coverage and carries no fault rating — it is treated as weather, not driving. Whether future pricing shifts is each insurance company’s decision and no shop can promise otherwise, but a comprehensive weather claim is a different animal from an at-fault collision on your record.

The dents are small and the paint is not broken. Is it worth fixing at all?

That is a fair question and the answer is financial as much as cosmetic. Unrepaired hail shows up sharply at trade-in and private sale — a UVIP does not hide a dimpled roof in sunlight. With a comprehensive claim covering the work beyond your deductible, most owners come out ahead repairing it. We will give you the number so you can decide.

A crew going door to door after the storm offered to repair my car and cover my deductible. Should I take it?

We would not. Deductible-waiving offers are a red flag, tent repairs are unwarrantable in practice, and the crew is gone before problems surface. Ontario law makes the shop your choice — take photos, get a written estimate from an established shop, and let your insurance company deal with a business that will still exist next year.
