The village is a bumper obstacle course
Look down the parked cars on Lakeshore Rd and count the scuffed corners — parallel parking on a busy strip guarantees them. That is one source. The marina is another: hitch balls sit at exactly bumper height, and every spring and fall the trailer shuffle leaves its punch marks in tailgates and rear covers. The third is newer. Port Credit’s condo era — the towers near Hurontario, the Brightwater district going up on the old refinery lands — has moved hundreds of cars into underground garages, where tight ramps, close pillars, and blind corners collect bumper corners a few centimetres at a time.

What sits behind the cover decides the job
A bumper is a system wearing a plastic skin. Behind the cover sit an energy absorber, mounting brackets, and on most vehicles from the last decade, ultrasonic parking sensors and sometimes radar for cruise control and emergency braking. So the first real step is removal — the cover comes off, and what is behind it determines whether this is a refinish, a repair, or a replacement. A scuffed but sound cover gets sanded, repaired, and repainted. A cover that is torn, or plastic that has creased and stretched, is replaced, and we say which — with both prices — rather than defaulting to the expensive answer.
Sensors get specific attention because the village relies on them: half of Port Credit’s parking happens in centimetres. Any sensor in the damaged area is checked for function and aim after reassembly, and radar-equipped vehicles are calibrated to specification before release, because a driver-assist system that measures wrongly is worse than one that is switched off. Refinished covers are colour-matched to the weathered shade of the car, blended, and covered by the lifetime paint warranty; replaced parts carry the parts-and-installation warranty.
