Parallel parking is a contact sport on Parkdale’s streets, and the bumper is the equipment. Cars easing into curb-lane gaps on Cowan or Close touch the vehicles ahead and behind more often than anyone admits; the concrete pillars in the Jameson tower garages take their toll on rear corners; and the high curbs along the Queen strip grind the lower lip of any car that noses in too optimistically. The trouble is that a modern bumper is not the chrome bar its name remembers. It is a painted plastic cover over an energy absorber, mounting brackets, and — on most recent cars — parking sensors, wiring, and sometimes radar for the driver aids. A scuff that looks like a cosmetic problem can sit in front of a cracked bracket or a sensor pushed off its aim, which is why we look behind the cover before declaring any bumper “just scratched.”
Repair the cover, or replace it?
The decision follows the damage, not a default. Scuffs, scratches, and shallow deformation in sound plastic are repaired and refinished — the cover is prepped, any gouges filled and profiled, and the paint matched and blended so the corner looks like it never met the pillar. Cracks through mounting points, torn tabs, or plastic that has creased and whitened past recovery mean replacement, because a structurally compromised cover neither fits right nor protects right. Replacements follow our OEM-parts preference, and anything replaced carries a parts-and-installation warranty alongside the lifetime warranty on the paint. Sensor-equipped covers get the extra steps they need: sensors transferred or replaced, seated correctly in the new cover, and their function checked before the car leaves — a parking sensor that cries wolf at every curb is a repair that is not actually finished. Colour is matched to your car’s aged paint, not just the code, so a new cover does not announce itself beside a nine-year-old fender.
