Auto Painting in Newmarket

Collision Auto Center paints Newmarket vehicles at our North York shop, about 28 to 38 minutes down Highway 404. Colour is mixed to your paint code, adjusted to the panel as it has actually aged, and blended into the panels beside it — and the refinish is backed by a lifetime warranty for as long as you own the car.

Sixty kilometres of highway a day is hard on paint

A Newmarket commuter car lives a harder paint life than a downtown one. The 404 round trip sandblasts the nose at highway speed — hood edge, bumper face, mirror caps — and every chip that breaks through the clear coat becomes a salt trap from December to April. By the time a car from Stonehaven or Glenway has done five winters of that commute, the leading edges are peppered and the first rust freckles are showing where the chips went untreated. Add the subdivisions’ open driveways — young trees, no shade, full southern sun all summer — and clear coat on horizontal panels ages faster here than the badge on the trunk would suggest.

The other steady source of paint work is the town’s own geometry. Main Street’s tight on-street parking donates scraped corners and scuffed door edges; the Upper Canada Mall rows donate the long shopping-cart scratch; winter windrows chew the paint off bumper lips and rockers a few millimetres at a time. None of these need a claim or a crash to justify fixing. Paint is the layer that stands between Ontario road salt and the steel, and repairing it early is cheaper than repairing the rust that follows it.

Matching the colour your car is now, not the colour it left the factory

Every refinish here starts from the paint code, but it cannot end there — a code describes the car as it was on day one, and a Newmarket driveway car five summers in has drifted from that formula. So the mix is adjusted against the actual panel, sprayed out on a test card, and checked under corrected light before the gun touches your vehicle. Metallics and pearls get the extra scrutiny, because their flake lies differently depending on spray technique, and a mismatch you cannot see in the booth will announce itself in low evening sun on Davis Drive.

The step that makes a repair invisible is the blend. Painting a repaired panel to a hard edge guarantees a visible seam between new paint and weathered paint; instead the colour is carried partway into the neighbouring panels and the clear coat is finished across the whole area, so there is no line for your eye to find. Preparation gets the same discipline — chips and scratches cut back to sound material, primed properly, never buried — because paint over a bad substrate fails from underneath. The result carries our lifetime warranty on paint and refinish work, in writing, for as long as the car is yours.

  • Colour mixed to code, then tuned to the panel as it has aged
  • Test spray-out checked under corrected light before painting
  • Blend into adjacent panels — no hard edge for sunlight to find
  • Lifetime warranty on paint and refinish work

Planning paint work around a 404 commute

Paint jobs are the easiest repair to run at distance, because the estimate rarely needs the car in front of us. Text photos of the panels in daylight to (647) 594-3401 — straight on and at an angle, so the scratch depth reads — and a written number comes back without a trip up or down the highway. If the paint damage is part of an insurance repair, the refinish is simply written into the claim; if it is wear you are fixing on your own dime, we will tell you honestly which panels need paint and which need polish, because those are very different invoices.

When the work is booked, the drop-off folds into the commute: the shop sits off Keele just south of Sheppard, two minutes from the 401, so most Newmarket customers hand off the keys on a workday morning rather than making a dedicated run. We are open Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 7 PM, with Sundays by appointment for drivers whose week has no slack in it, and the finished car waits indoors — not in a lot collecting dust in wet clear coat. At pickup, the owner walks the car with you panel by panel before the keys change hands.

Common questions

Straight answers before you commit to anything — and a human on the phone when you want one.

Can you paint just the front bumper and hood, or does the whole car need paint?

Just the damaged panels — that is the normal job, not the exception. The colour is tuned to your car’s current finish and blended into the adjacent panels, which is what keeps a two-panel repaint from reading as two new panels on a five-year-old car.

My clear coat is peeling on the hood and roof. Is that repairable or is it a repaint?

Once clear coat lifts, it cannot be reattached — the failed layer comes off, the panel is prepped back to sound material, and it is refinished properly. Caught early it stays a one- or two-panel job; left through another summer of full sun it spreads, so sooner is genuinely cheaper.

Will insurance pay for stone chips from the 404?

Ordinary chip wear is maintenance, not a claim, and we will quote it that way. Where insurance does enter is collision repair: any refinish that is part of a claim is written into the estimate with your insurance company, and our lifetime paint warranty applies the same either way.

Honestly, I thought my car would never look the same again — but they completely proved me wrong. I couldn’t even tell where the damage had been repaired or repainted. The paint matched perfectly, and the bodywork was flawless.
