Auto Painting in High Park

A century-old canopy is beautiful over a house and hard on a car. Collision Auto Center — straight up Keele from the park, about 18–28 minutes — refinishes sap-etched hoods, scraped doors, and faded panels with colour matched to how your paint has actually aged, blended past the repair, and covered by a lifetime warranty.

The canopy giveth shade and taketh clear coat

High Park’s streets run under some of the oldest street trees in Toronto — oaks and maples that predate most of the houses. A car parked beneath them year-round collects what the canopy drops: sap that bakes into the clear coat through July, bird droppings acidic enough to etch rings into the finish if they sit through a hot weekend, and the odd branch that a windstorm delivers straight onto a hood. Because so much of the neighbourhood parks on the street — the laneway garage long since converted to storage or a studio — the finish takes this weathering with no garage roof to hide under.

Winter runs the other half of the assault. Salt spray off Bloor, Parkside, and The Queensway dulls lower panels and creeps into every stone chip, and by March the leading edge of a hood that was crisp in November reads matte in raking light. None of this is collision damage, but all of it becomes paint work eventually — and it is exactly why refinishing a single damaged panel on a High Park car takes more judgement than spraying a factory formula and hoping.

Matching paint that has lived outdoors for years

Your paint code tells us what colour the car was on the day it was built. Our job is matching the colour it is now, after seasons of sun, sap, and salt have shifted it — because a panel sprayed straight to code will sit next to its weathered neighbours looking subtly, permanently wrong. We start from the code, tune the mix against your actual panels, spray a test card, and judge it under corrected light before any paint touches the car. Metallics and pearls get checked from several angles, since those finishes change character as you walk around them.

Then comes the part that makes a repair invisible: the blend. New colour is carried into the adjacent panels so the transition happens gradually across a surface instead of abruptly at a panel gap, where any mismatch draws a line the eye cannot unsee. Etching and shallow scratches sometimes need only sanding and polishing rather than colour — when that is true, we say so and charge for the smaller job. Whatever the scope, every refinish leaves here under a lifetime warranty: if our paint work fails while the car is yours, we make it right.

  • Colour tuned to your weathered panels, not just the factory formula
  • Test card sprayed and checked under corrected light first
  • Blend carried into neighbouring panels — no visible edge
  • Lifetime warranty on every refinish

Claim it or pay for it — the honest arithmetic

Paint work is where claims most often stop making sense, so we give you both numbers before you decide. A mutual-driveway scrape or a single sap-etched hood usually prices near a typical deductible — claiming it gains little and involves your insurance company in a job cash would cover. A keyed door on the Roncesvalles side, though, is vandalism, which falls under comprehensive coverage with your normal deductible and is frequently worth claiming. Text photos to (647) 594-3401 and you will have a written price and a plain recommendation, with the decision left where it belongs: with you.

Logistics stay simple. The drive up is Keele St end to end, single-panel refinish work is typically measured in days rather than weeks — most of it booth and cure time — and the 41 Keele bus takes you home from our door to Keele station on one fare. Hours are 8 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Saturday, with Sunday drop-offs by appointment.

Common questions

Straight answers before you commit to anything — and a human on the phone when you want one.

Tree sap and bird droppings have etched rings into my hood. Is that paintable?

Yes — and sometimes it is less than a repaint. Shallow etching often sands and polishes out of the clear coat; deeper marks need the panel refinished properly with prep, colour, clear, and a blend. We tell you which yours is from photos, and if polishing solves it you pay for polishing, not paint.

Someone keyed my car overnight near Roncesvalles. Does insurance cover a full-side scratch?

Usually yes, under comprehensive coverage as vandalism, with your normal deductible applied. A scratch running multiple panels prices well above most deductibles, so claiming typically makes sense. Photograph it, report it to police, notify your insurance company, and send us the photos — we handle the estimate and the adjuster from there.

My car is a tri-coat white pearl. Can that actually be matched?

It can, with patience. Tri-coats take a colour base, a pearl mid-coat, and clear, and the pearl layer shifts with viewing angle — so we spray test cards, vary the mid-coat until it reads true from every side, and blend wider than usual. Pearls punish shortcuts; we do not take them.

What customers say

The line we hear most: “I couldn’t tell where the damage had been.”

★★★★★

Honestly, I thought my car would never look the same again — but they completely proved me wrong. I couldn’t even tell where the damage had been repaired or repainted. The paint matched perfectly, and the bodywork was flawless.
