Auto Painting in East York

Collision Auto Center repaints and refinishes East York vehicles at our shop off Keele just south of Sheppard — doors scraped in shared driveways, hoods dulled by years at the curb, panels refinished after a collision. Colour is mixed to your code, checked against the actual panel, blended into its neighbours, and warranted for as long as you own the car.

Paint ages fast when the car sleeps outside

Walk any block off Sammon or Mortimer and count the garages — there are not many, and most of them stopped fitting cars decades ago. East York vehicles live at the curb or in an open drive, which means their paint takes everything the calendar throws: July sun baking the hood and roof, maple sap and bird droppings etching rings into clear coat, and five months of salt mist thrown up by every passing plow. The finish does not fail all at once. It goes chalky on the horizontal panels first, then thin at the edges, and one day the car looks ten years older than its odometer says.

Then there are the wounds with a specific author: the pillar of brick at the narrow end of a mutual drive, the neighbour’s fence post, the gate that swung back on a windy day. Some of those marks are transfer sitting on top of the clear and will polish away. Anything you can catch with a fingernail has cut into the colour, and no amount of buffing brings colour back — that panel needs paint. Send close-up photos in daylight and we will tell you which side of that line your damage sits on, and what each answer costs, before you drive a kilometre.

Matching a colour the factory sprayed fifteen years ago

East York keeps its cars a long time, and old paint drifts. The code on the door jamb describes the colour the day it left the plant, not after a decade and a half at the curb on Donlands — so we treat the code as a starting recipe. The mixed colour goes onto a test card, the card goes against your actual panel under corrected light, and the tint gets adjusted until the two disappear into each other. Only then does your car see the booth.

The blend is what makes the repair invisible. Fresh paint laid to a hard stop at a panel edge announces itself every time the sun hits it, so we carry the colour into the neighbouring panels and let the transition fall where no eye can find it. Whites, pearls, and metallics — most of what parks in Thorncliffe’s lots — get the full multi-stage treatment, mid-coat and all. Every refinish leaves with a lifetime warranty in writing: if paint we sprayed fails while the car is yours, we make it right.

The booth schedule, built around your week

Proper paint work cannot be hurried — repair, primer, sealer, base, clear, cure, polish — but your part of it can be. The estimate happens from photos. Materials and any parts are on the shelf before your car crosses the Don Valley, so booth time starts the day you arrive rather than after a week in a holding lot. A single-panel respray typically hands the car back within a few days, and the timeline we quote is written for your specific job, not recited from a chart.

Drop off any day Monday to Saturday between 8 AM and 7 PM; Sundays can be arranged by appointment when that is the only day the household can spare the car. If the paint work is one piece of a collision claim, it rides the same file we are already running with your insurance company — one estimate, one shop, one person answering for the result. Questions land with the owner directly, at (647) 594-3401.

Good to know

Common questions

Straight answers before you commit to anything — and a human on the phone when you want one.

There is a long scrape down my door from our shared driveway. Polish or paint?

Run a fingernail across it. If the nail glides over, the mark is likely transfer on top of the clear coat and may polish out. If the nail catches, the scrape has cut into colour and the panel needs refinishing. Photos in good light are usually enough for us to call it — and to give you a written price either way.

My car is fourteen years old and has faded. Will one freshly painted panel stand out?

Not if the match is done against the car rather than the code. We tint the colour to the panel as it exists today, prove it on a spray-out card first, and blend into the adjacent panels so there is no sharp boundary between new paint and old. That blend is precisely what keeps an older car looking untouched.

The wheel arches are bubbling from salt. Can paint fix that?

Paint alone cannot — bubbles mean corrosion is working under the finish, and spraying over it buys months, not years. The honest repair cuts the rust out or replaces the affected metal, treats the area, then refinishes. We will tell you plainly whether the panel is worth saving before any money changes hands.
