Park a car at the curb every night of its life and the sheet metal keeps a diary. In the Beaches the entries are predictable: a door edge from the car that shared your block of Hammersmith, a shopping-cart crease from the Queen East grocery run, a shallow dish in the rear quarter where someone leaned a bike on Willow. In July and August the pace doubles — beach visitors wedge into permit spots with centimetres to spare, and every badly judged door swing lands on somebody’s panel.
Winter contributes the deeper hits. Plows leave windrows that freeze into concrete along the one-way blocks, and nosing into a spot over one puts a fold in a bumper corner or rocker that no spring thaw undoes. The slope streets below Kingston Road add slide damage — a rear door met by a car that could not stop on Glen Manor ice. Repair the metal or replace the panel — how we decide
The honest answer depends on three things: how deep the dent is, whether the paint survived, and where it sits on the panel. Shallow damage with intact paint on an accessible panel can often be worked back to shape from behind, keeping your factory finish. A crease that stretched the metal, cracked the paint, or landed on a body line usually calls for filler work and refinishing — and a panel that is more dent than panel gets replaced, because piling filler into ruined metal is a repair that fails in a year.

Take three pictures — the whole panel, the dent up close, and an angle that catches the light across it — and text them over; a written number comes back fast. That matters from the Beaches, where the drive to Keele and Sheppard is a real 26 to 38 minutes and nobody wants to make it just to hear a price. Most dent repairs are booked, dropped, and picked up in a single short cycle.
Insurance is worth a conversation before you file. A single door ding often sits close to a collision deductible, and claiming it may not be worth it; a flank of damage from an identified vehicle is a different story, and DCPD may cover it entirely if you were not at fault.
