Filing a digital-first claim
belairdirect built its business on selling and servicing policies directly, so the claim will likely start on your phone — and digital filing is quick, which is exactly why it rewards a little preparation. Photograph both vehicles from several angles before anything moves, capture the other driver’s plate and pink slip, and pin the location precisely: the ramp, the intersection, the level of the parking garage. Upload the photos with the claim rather than promising them later; files attached at the start reach whoever reviews your claim first.
Somewhere in that flow you will be asked about a repair shop, often with a map of network facilities. You are free to type ours instead: Collision Auto Center, North York, off Keele just south of Sheppard. belairdirect operates as a direct-to-consumer brand within the Intact family; Collision Auto Center has no partnership, endorsement, or network relationship with either — the names appear here only to explain how these claims run.
The map of network shops is optional
Ontario law leaves the repair decision with the vehicle owner. A preferred-shop map is an offer of convenience, not a boundary, and your policy owes the reasonable cost of restoring the vehicle to pre-accident condition wherever the work is done. Skipping the map costs you nothing on the claim.
What the map does not show is how each shop writes an estimate. A network facility works to the agreed processes of its agreement; we work to the repair procedures published by your vehicle’s manufacturer, and when the two differ, the difference tends to sit in exactly the places you cannot see — welds, foams, sensor brackets, corrosion protection. That is the trade you are making, and it is worth making consciously.
From app estimate to actual repair
An estimate generated from your uploaded photos gets the claim moving, and we treat it as exactly that — an opening number. The damaged area comes apart here before anything is finalized, everything behind it is photographed, and the repair plan is written from what is actually broken. On a GTA winter hit — salt-caked underbody, a windrow scrape that bent more than the bumper — the gap between the photo number and the teardown number can be substantial.
When the impact reached the structure, the vehicle is measured against factory specification before and after any correction, and the readings stay in your file. Colour is read off your own paint and confirmed on a sprayed test card before the gun touches the car, then blended into the neighbouring panels. Paint and refinish work carries a lifetime warranty for as long as you own the vehicle.
- App or photo estimate treated as the starting point only
- Teardown and photo documentation before the estimate is final
- Repair plan written to manufacturer procedures, line by line
- Structural measurement recorded before and after correction
- Lifetime warranty on paint and refinish at delivery
Supplements without the runaround
On a photo-first claim there is usually something to add, and the supplement is the ordinary mechanism for adding it. We send the teardown images, the part numbers, and the labour operations, then track the file until the added lines clear. Work already authorized carries on in the meantime, so a pending item costs hours rather than days.
If a line is denied and the vehicle genuinely needs it, we ask for the decision in writing and the reasoning behind it — documented disagreements get resolved far more readily than phone ones. You are copied on what we file, so nothing about the number or the timeline reaches you as a surprise at pick-up. Your policy terms govern coverage; the file we build is the case for what the repair requires.
