Between the lake and the escarpment, paint takes a beating

Burlington is hard on finishes from two directions. Along Lakeshore Road and the older Aldershot blocks off Plains Road, cars live outdoors on long driveways under full southern sun, and after enough summers the horizontal panels — hood, roof, trunk — fade a shade lighter than the doors. Meanwhile every QEW commuter runs a daily sandblasting: winter brine mist and stone spray at 100 km/h that leaves the leading edge of the hood peppered with chips. Left alone through a couple of salt seasons, those chips become the rust freckles we get asked about every spring.

The north end adds its own wear. Drivers who take Guelph Line or Walkers Line up the escarpment toward Lowville and Kilbride collect gravel-shoulder chips low on the fenders and rockers, and the plow windrows in Alton and The Orchard scrape bumper skins white every February. None of this is collision damage, but all of it is paint work, and it shapes how we quote a Burlington refinish: we look at what the whole car has weathered, not just the panel that finally made you call.

Matching a colour that has lived nine winters outside

The paint code on your door jamb describes the colour your car wore in the factory, not the colour it wears after years of Burlington sun and salt. So a match here starts at the code and ends at the panel: the formula is mixed, sprayed on a test card, and compared against the actual adjacent panels under corrected light, then tinted until the difference disappears. The refinish is blended into the neighbouring panels rather than stopped at a hard edge — the blend is what makes a repaired fender invisible in the Mapleview Centre lot at noon.

Preparation carries the rest of the result. Old chips and any rust bloom are cut back to sound metal, primed, and sealed before base coat goes anywhere near the car, because paint over corrosion is a six-month repair. Clear coat goes on in a controlled booth and is cured, then flatted and polished to match the texture of the factory finish beside it. That work — the whole refinish — is covered by our lifetime paint warranty for as long as you own the vehicle, which is a straightforward promise to make when the preparation was not skipped.

  • Colour mixed to code, then tinted to the car’s real, weathered shade
  • Chips and rust cut to clean metal before any primer or base
  • Blend into adjacent panels so no edge shows in sunlight
  • Lifetime warranty on paint and refinish work

How a Burlington paint job works at 55 kilometres

Paint work schedules more predictably than collision work, which suits the distance. Text photos of the panels to (647) 594-3401 and the written estimate comes back without a trip — including a straight answer on whether the job is worth doing through your insurance company or out of pocket. Where the paint damage is part of a claim, vandalism and similar comprehensive items run through your deductible, and we handle that paperwork the same way we handle collision files: opened from our office and argued by the owner.

When the schedule is set, the drive is QEW to the 403/407 split, 407 to Keele, and down to just south of Sheppard — about 38 to 52 minutes when the highways behave. Many Burlington customers pair the drop-off with a workday in Toronto and collect the car on the way home later in the week; Saturday hours until 7 PM cover everyone else, and Sundays open by appointment. If a rental is part of the claim, it is booked to your drop-off so the two trips stay two trips.

Common questions

Straight answers before you commit to anything — and a human on the phone when you want one.

My hood is chipped and faded from years of QEW commuting. Repaint the hood only?

Usually the hood plus a blend into the fenders — a hood painted to code alone will sit noticeably fresher than nine-year-old paint beside it. We tint the mix to the car’s current shade and blend the edges so nothing announces itself. Photos are enough for a written number before you commit to the drive.

Is repainting worth an insurance claim, or should I pay out of pocket?

It depends on cause and cost. Keyed or vandalized paint is a comprehensive claim with your deductible; wear like fade and stone chips is not claimable at all. Send photos and we price it both ways — if the repair sits close to your deductible, we will tell you plainly that a claim gains you nothing.

How long does paint work take, given the distance from Burlington?

Most single-panel or two-panel refinishes are measured in days, and we confirm the window before you drive so the trip lands when parts and booth time are ready. Curing, flatting, and polishing are not rushed for geography — the car leaves when the finish matches, and Saturday pickup until 7 PM usually solves the schedule.
