Structure bends quietly on this side of town
Nothing announces structural damage. A car rear-ended in Parkway traffic can drive away with a scuffed bumper and a rear rail sitting two centimetres forward of where the factory put it. A front corner that found a pole at Danforth and Pape on black ice can pass a glance while its strut tower has moved. Modern unibodies are engineered to sacrifice themselves in planned zones around the cabin — brilliant for the people inside, misleading for the owner afterward, because a car that folds correctly also hides the fold.
The Danforth’s third source of structural work never involves another vehicle. Freeze–thaw season opens craters in the avenue and its side streets from February into April, and a wheel dropped hard into one at speed sends the force up through the suspension into the mounting points it bolts to. Bent control arms are a parts problem; a shifted mounting point is a structural one. The symptom set is the same either way — steering off-centre, a pull that was not there before, uneven tire wear appearing within weeks.
The bench does not have opinions
Structural assessment here is arithmetic. The vehicle is set up on measuring equipment and its control points — the fixed reference locations the manufacturer publishes — are read against factory data, in millimetres. That map determines everything after: which sections can be pulled back to specification, and which have absorbed their designed crumple and must be sectioned out and replaced per the manufacturer’s procedure, because crash-managed steel is engineered for one performance, not an encore.
Pulls happen in stages on the bench, with tension applied, released, and re-measured rather than hauled to a number in one go. When the readings land inside specification, they are recorded and kept with your file — which matters beyond the shop, because a documented structural repair defends the car’s value to a future buyer, a lease return inspector, or the adjuster on some future claim. An alignment rack can make a bent car drive straight; only measurement can make it right. We do not confuse the two.

Do not drive the question mark
If the wheel sits crooked while the car tracks straight, a door has started catching its striker, panel gaps have opened on one side, or the car wanders on the crown of the road — park it.
