Where Willowdale cars pick up their dents
Park twice a day in a condo garage sized for 1990s sedans and the doors tell the story. Neighbouring doors swing into yours in stalls with centimetres to spare; pillars catch quarter panels on the turn; the concrete wheel stops bite bumpers low where you cannot see the damage until you kneel. Above ground it is no gentler — pay-and-display parallel spots along the Yonge strip, event nights at Mel Lastman Square packing every side street, and the school-hour scramble around Earl Haig where three-point turns happen between parked cars.
Winter contributes its own dents. Windrows left across driveways on the bungalow blocks freeze into something closer to concrete than snow, and nosing through one can crease a valance or fold the lower lip of a bumper. Shovels and snowbrushes leave their marks on hoods and roofs. Individually these are small repairs. The mistake is ignoring them: a dent that has cracked the paint is an open door for salt, and by spring a cosmetic problem has become a rust problem.
How a dent actually gets fixed properly
A proper dent repair starts behind the panel, not in front of it. Where there is access, the metal is worked back toward its original shape from the inside; high spots are brought down, and the surface is finished with the thinnest possible skim before refinishing. Depth and location decide the method — a shallow dent in the middle of a door is a different job from a crease along a body line, where the metal has stretched and the panel’s stiffest section has to be rebuilt true. If a skin is stretched past saving, we say so and price the replacement honestly.
The refinish is the half of the job people forget. A perfectly shaped panel with mismatched paint is still a visible repair, so every dent we fix is colour-matched to the car as it is today and blended into the surrounding area — then covered by the same lifetime paint warranty as our collision work. You should not be able to find the dent afterward, in any light, from any angle.
Claim it or pay for it? The math we walk you through
Most single dents sit awkwardly close to a typical deductible, which is why the first thing we give Willowdale customers is a number, not a pitch. Text photos of the dent and we reply with a written price. If the repair costs less than or near your deductible, claiming gains you nothing and we will tell you so. If it is clearly above — a deep crease, multiple panels, cracked paint — a claim may make sense, and at that point we handle the paperwork with your insurance company like any other repair.
Either way the logistics are the same: drop off on Sheppard-corridor terms, 8 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday with Sundays by appointment, parts and paint ready before your car arrives so a small dent does not cost you a week of driving. One visit to drop off, one to collect.
